Forget the prompt hacks and tricks you found on social media. These ten principles are what actually make a difference when you're trying to get AI to help with real business work.
Before any question, paste your Business Context Document. Every answer improves immediately.
Don't say "write me an email." Say "write a 3-paragraph follow-up email to a cafe owner who enquired about our AI workshop but hasn't booked yet. Friendly tone, not pushy."
"Write this for a 45-year-old small business owner with no tech background" gives you completely different output than an unspecified audience.
"You are an experienced copywriter who specialises in Australian small business marketing" primes the AI to respond from a particular perspective.
Add "think through this step by step before answering" to complex questions. The output quality lifts noticeably.
If the first answer feels generic, say "that's too broad — make it more specific to my situation" and it will refine. AI responds to feedback.
"Give me three different approaches to this" gives you more to work with than a single answer you may not love.
"Give me this as a bullet point list under 100 words" gets you something usable immediately instead of five paragraphs you need to edit down.
"Don't use jargon, don't be overly formal, and don't mention competitors by name" saves you editing time.
Ask "what assumptions did you make in that answer?" You'll catch the places where it guessed instead of knowing — and know what to correct.
The Capable.AI workshop takes you through everything hands-on — with your own business data, in one day.
